WiFi Good and Bad News
I have good news and I have bad news for the WiFi service. Bad news, I’m almost done developing the new system and so you won’t be able to use the widely discovered bug. Good news, there are 5 more free hotspots coming out. From these places Costa Cafe City Tower and Eureka, which are already operational and free till a specific date. For the rest of the places, bribe me :o)

Everyone down my street has Wifi routers/gateways. All I have to do to get DSL is switch on my laptop, stand at the front of the house, and tada! Full connectivity from a range of sources. Makes you wonder, dont the installers configure WEP or any basic security? Even changing the default password on the router would be sufficient. Seeing as the device publishes its name, i can check what model it is, look up the default admin account/password on the web, then use the default credentials to log into their router. Then disabling any kind of security is straightforward.
Whats also interesting is that you can get onto their network too. Portscanning at this stage reveals everything.
What I was thinking, is would it be possible to install 3 wifi cards in your machine, allow each one to connect to a different wifi network, then bridge all of the connections. I think you could get some SERIOUS downstream bandwidth! Schedule your machine to commence downloads at anti sociable hours, and there you go… mp3s, movies you name it….
Im not facilitating this… just questioning the fact that Qualitynet or whoever does the installations needs to configure security too, its unprofessional not to.

LoL yeah I noticed that but it’s cool though as no matter what city you are at you are able to get on the net…

I leave my wifi access point on .. However, I limit the bandwidth that people on the wireless can use and I also limit the ports. I use other people’s wireless, I dont see why I cant do the same. :)
And I was able to get two access points, bridge them to my server. And basically double up on my neighbors internet. I would imagine you could do it with a laptop, just wouldnt know how in xp.

Hey K, I think you would need XP Pro. Install two wifi adaptors, and XP has the network settings to bridge multiple adaptors. Hmmm I wonder how effective this could be… has anyone tried?
I think latency might come into the equation, i.e. seeing as there needs to be some synchronisation across bridged adaptors (to determine the packets requested) there might be an optimal number of connections/bandwidth that can be effectively bridged… otherwise the “synchronisation” between adaptors might impede the benefit of adding the next one to the bridge.
Thoughts?

I highly doubt WinXp is capable of using multiple-wans to increase speeds. You would be able to get redundancy .. but thats somewhat useless in your application(speed).
This is due to WinXp(and Server 2003) ability to manage connections.
When there are multiple default routes in the routing table with the different metrics, TCP/IP for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 chooses the default route with the lowest metric. If the adapters are of different speeds, then the adapter with the higher speed by default has the lower metric and is used to forward default route traffic.

In order to use multiple-wans to increase speed, you would either need a router capable or linux with some configuration. You also need a system capable of load balancing, it not a matter of plug and play.
AND, if it does work .. you will not see increase in single stream downloads e.g. IE. You would need to use a download program that establishes multiple streams to make full use of the bandwidth.

whats the point of having a free wifi locatino and not telling people about it ?
people in kuwait are not roaming around with their laptops, and those who know about it would rather not share the information, because then, too many people would know about this TREASURE !!!
its clearly coming out of someones advertising budget, be it Zajil or Qnet or MTC, you have to let people know that you are giving internet for free, get some crowd to build up around you, even people who dont use it will spread the news.
